CPENT certification cost in India 2026 — ATC training vs self-study breakdown, fees, hidden costs, and CPENT vs OSCP comparison

CPENT certification cost in India, at a glance

“How much does CPENT actually cost?” is probably the most common question we get from students who’ve cleared CEH and want to move into hands-on pentesting. The short answer: it depends on how you go about it.

If you train through an Accredited Training Center (ATC) like Macksofy, expect to pay ₹1,50,000–₹2,00,000 all-in — that covers 40 hours of live instructor-led training, official EC-Council courseware, 30 days of iLabs access, and your exam voucher. If you’re confident in your skills and want to go the self-study route, you can get just the exam voucher for about ₹25,000–₹30,000. But fair warning: CPENT’s 24-hour practical exam (split into two 12-hour segments) is no joke, and most self-study candidates we’ve spoken to wish they’d invested in guided training.

Component Cost (INR, approx.) Notes
iClass live online training (ATC) ₹1,20,000–₹1,50,000 40 hours instructor-led + courseware + iLabs; includes exam voucher at most ATCs
Exam voucher only (no training) ₹25,000–₹30,000 For self-study candidates; limited iLabs access
EC-Council iLabs (30 days) Included with training Real machines on live ranges; additional time purchasable
Exam retake (if needed) ₹15,000–₹20,000 Per attempt; solid preparation makes this avoidable
Total (ATC training path) ₹1,50,000–₹2,00,000 Training + exam + labs — the path most students take
Total (self-study path) ₹25,000–₹45,000 Voucher + optional supplementary labs — significantly harder

What makes CPENT different (and why it costs what it does)

CPENT is EC-Council’s advanced penetration testing certification — it sits above CEH v13 in their certification ladder and is designed to prove you can actually do the work, not just answer questions about it. The exam is entirely practical: you get 24 hours on a live network with multiple subnets, and you need to demonstrate exploitation, pivoting, binary analysis, IoT hacking, double pivoting, and professional report writing. There isn’t a single multiple-choice question.

The price tag reflects this infrastructure. EC-Council maintains live lab ranges with real machines you attack during both training and the exam. Building and maintaining these ranges isn’t cheap, and that’s ultimately what you’re paying for — access to realistic environments that teach you to think like a pentester, not memorise answers. It’s why CPENT costs more than CEH (which is MCQ-based) but typically less than OSCP (which requires a separate OffSec subscription).

Breaking down the costs for Indian candidates

The ATC training path (what we recommend)

Most of our successful CPENT candidates take the ATC route, and there’s a reason for that. At Macksofy Trainings (an EC-Council ATC based in Mumbai), the CPENT programme includes:

  • 40 hours of live instructor-led training covering the full CPENT syllabus
  • Official EC-Council courseware and study materials
  • EC-Council iLabs access (30 days of live range time)
  • One exam voucher
  • Mentored exam preparation with practice sessions focused on your weak spots

ATC pricing in India ranges from ₹1,20,000 to ₹1,50,000 for the training bundle. Some centres charge the exam voucher separately (₹25,000–₹30,000), while others bundle it in. Always clarify what’s included before you commit. Reach out to us for current CPENT batch pricing.

The self-study path (if you’re experienced enough)

EC-Council lets you buy just the exam voucher (roughly ₹25,000–₹30,000) without mandatory training. Sounds tempting, right? But here’s what you’re signing up for: 24 hours of live exploitation, pivoting, and binary analysis — with no instructor to lean on and limited lab time. To make this work, you’ll need:

  • Already strong skills in network pentesting, pivoting, and exploit development
  • Your own lab environment with multiple subnets and vulnerable machines
  • Comfort with double-pivoting, IoT exploitation, and binary analysis
  • Professional report-writing chops — the exam requires a real pentest report

If you already hold OSCP or have genuine hands-on pentest experience, self-study can work. For everyone else, the ATC training is money well spent. Failing the exam and paying ₹15,000–₹20,000 per retake adds up fast.

Costs people forget about

These hidden costs catch people off guard — budget for them upfront:

  • Exam retake: ₹15,000–₹20,000 per attempt if you don’t pass the first time
  • Extended lab time: need more than 30 days of iLabs? Additional time costs ₹5,000–₹10,000 per month
  • Home lab setup: self-study candidates need a machine with at least 16 GB RAM and enough disk space for multiple VMs
  • Renewal (ECE): CPENT expires after three years; earning continuing education credits costs time and sometimes money for courses or conferences

What does CPENT actually teach you? The ten modules

Before you invest, it helps to know exactly what you’re getting. CPENT’s syllabus is broader than most people expect — it’s not just exploitation:

  1. Penetration testing scoping and engagement — rules of engagement, scope definition, and legal considerations
  2. Open-source intelligence (OSINT) — passive recon, data correlation, and building a target profile
  3. Social engineering — phishing campaigns, pretexting, and physical assessment techniques
  4. External network testing — perimeter assessment, service exploitation, and credential attacks
  5. Internal network testing — post-exploitation, lateral movement, and domain privilege escalation
  6. Perimeter device testing — firewalls, IDS/IPS, routers, and switch configurations
  7. Web application testing — OWASP Top 10, API testing, and authentication/session flaws
  8. IoT penetration testing — firmware analysis, protocol attacks, and embedded device exploitation
  9. Binary analysis and exploitation — buffer overflows, reverse engineering, and exploit development
  10. Report writing — executive and technical reports with actionable remediation guidance

CPENT vs OSCP — which gives better value for money?

This is the question everyone asks, and the honest answer is: it depends on your career goals more than the price tag. Here’s how they compare on cost:

Factor CPENT OSCP (PEN-200)
Training + exam cost ₹1,50,000–₹2,00,000 (ATC bundle) ₹1,70,000–₹2,67,000 (Learn One / Learn Unlimited)
Exam-only cost ₹25,000–₹30,000 Not available separately — requires subscription
Exam format 24 hours (2 × 12 h), live network, report required 23 hours 45 minutes, live network, report required
Lab access 30 days iLabs (extendable) 90 days PEN-200 labs (with Learn One)
Retake cost ₹15,000–₹20,000 Included in Learn Unlimited; ₹70,000+ for Learn One retake
Where it’s strongest Indian govt, BFSI, Middle East Global product companies, startups, serious consulting
Validity 3 years (renewable with ECE credits) Does not expire (OSCP+)

On pure cost, CPENT self-study (₹25,000–₹30,000) is dramatically cheaper than any OSCP path. With ATC training, they’re in a similar price range. The real difference is where each certification carries weight. If your career targets are Indian government, BFSI, or Middle East markets, CPENT gives strong returns. If you’re aiming at product companies, global roles, or the broader pentest community, OSCP is the better investment. For the full breakdown, see our OSCP vs CPENT comparison and OSCP complete guide.

Already have CEH? Here’s when CPENT makes sense

A lot of our students come to us after clearing CEH, asking, “Is CPENT worth the upgrade?” Here’s how to think about it:

  • CEH v13 (₹40,000–₹70,000) is MCQ-based and proves you understand attack concepts. It’s excellent for landing entry-level roles, meeting compliance requirements, and qualifying for government positions.
  • CPENT (₹1,50,000–₹2,00,000) is fully practical and proves you can actually execute attacks on live networks. It’s the natural next step when you’re ready to move from theory to practice.

The upgrade makes sense once you’ve been in a security role for 1–2 years and want to validate hands-on capability — or if you’ve completed CEH Practical and want to push further. Read our CEH v13 training guide and honest CEH analysis for context on the progression.

What does CPENT do for your career in India?

CPENT carries real weight in specific parts of the Indian job market — and surprisingly strong recognition in some sectors that candidates don’t always expect:

  • Government and defence: EC-Council certifications are widely recognised in Indian government tenders, CERT-In empanelment criteria, and defence contractor requirements. CPENT often appears as a qualifying credential.
  • BFSI: Banks and financial institutions frequently list CPENT alongside OSCP in their pentest team requirements
  • Consulting firms: Big 4 and Indian cybersecurity consultancies value CPENT’s practical exam format — it proves you can deliver, not just advise
  • Middle East roles: CPENT is particularly respected in UAE and Saudi Arabia — worth knowing for Indian professionals considering Gulf positions

Salary expectations: ₹8–15 LPA for mid-level pentest roles, ₹15–25 LPA for senior positions, depending on experience and city. For broader market data, see our highest-paying cybersecurity jobs guide and Mumbai cybersecurity jobs overview.

How to actually prepare for the CPENT exam

Here’s the preparation approach that has worked consistently for our students. Don’t rush through this — CPENT rewards depth over speed:

  1. Go through every module in ATC training. Don’t skip the “easy” ones — the exam tests breadth across all ten modules, and candidates who skip social engineering or IoT lose easy points.
  2. Master pivoting until it’s muscle memory. Double-pivoting is CPENT’s signature skill. Set up multi-subnet labs and practise SSH tunnels, proxychains, and Metasploit routing until you can do them in your sleep.
  3. Get comfortable with binary exploitation basics. You won’t need OSED-level exploit dev, but you must handle basic buffer overflows on both Linux and Windows.
  4. Build your report template before exam day. The exam requires a professional pentest report. Prepare your template, screenshot workflow, and evidence format in advance — you don’t want to figure this out under time pressure.
  5. Supplement with additional labs. Practise Active Directory attack chains, sharpen your Nmap skills, and get fluent with Burp Suite to fill any gaps.
  6. Manage your time ruthlessly. You have two 12-hour segments. Enumerate everything first, then exploit in order of difficulty. Getting stuck on one machine for three hours is the most common mistake we see.

Frequently asked questions

Is CPENT harder than OSCP?

They’re different challenges, not harder or easier versions of each other. CPENT covers broader ground — IoT, binary exploitation, social engineering, perimeter devices — but with less depth per topic. OSCP goes deeper on Linux/Windows exploitation and Active Directory attacks. Most candidates find OSCP’s single 24-hour block more mentally intense than CPENT’s split into two 12-hour segments. Your background determines which one feels harder.

Can I get CPENT without taking CEH first?

Absolutely. EC-Council doesn’t require CEH as a prerequisite. That said, if you have zero pentest certification or experience, ATC training is essential — CPENT assumes you already have working knowledge of networking, exploitation, and pentesting methodology. Jumping straight into CPENT without fundamentals is a recipe for an expensive retake.

Does CPENT count toward LPT Master?

Yes — and this is one of CPENT’s hidden advantages. Score 90% or above on the exam, and you automatically earn the Licensed Penetration Tester (LPT) Master credential from EC-Council, at no extra cost. That’s two certifications for the price of one, if you prepare thoroughly enough.

How long is CPENT valid?

Three years. You’ll need to earn EC-Council Continuing Education (ECE) credits through courses, conferences, or teaching to renew. Keep this in mind when comparing with OSCP, which doesn’t expire — the ongoing renewal cost of CPENT is a factor people often overlook.

Is CPENT worth it if I already have OSCP?

For most people, honestly no. OSCP carries stronger global recognition, and the skill overlap is significant. Adding CPENT after OSCP makes sense only in specific situations: you need EC-Council credentials for government tenders, compliance frameworks that specifically list CPENT, or you’re targeting Middle East job markets where EC-Council certifications are preferred over OffSec. Otherwise, your time and money are better spent on a different specialisation like OSWE, CRTP, or OSAI.
